Fatima Sammoud

I am honoured to have been selected as a recipient of the Reid Scholarship. The funds from this scholarship will be put towards my education as I finish the last year of my Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Mount Royal University. As a future educator, I am driven by my passion for making a positive impact on the lives of others. This passion, along with the opportunities I have encountered during my education, has steered me towards inclusive learning and working with students diagnosed with learning disabilities.

Currently, I work as a structured literacy intervention tutor, where I have developed and deepened my understanding of diverse learning needs. This role has allowed me to expand my teaching strategies and tools to best support my learners. By tailoring my instruction to meet students’ needs and incorporating multisensory and enjoyable learning experiences, I have seen rapid development in their literacy skills and, more importantly, improved confidence in their abilities. They know they can overcome challenges and achieve success.

I plan to continue seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge of strategies and tools to support students with learning disabilities while sharing my learnings with others. I love the work that I currently do and am eager to have my classroom, where I can share my passion for learning. I remain committed to fostering environments and spaces that are inclusive, supportive, and accessible to all learners, so they can achieve their full potential and anything they set their minds to.
